The history of Lalique

Lalique is a brand that we owe to René Lalique, an illustrious character of the last century, born in 1860. He began his career in 1885 as a jewelry designer. His company, belonging to the Art Nouveau style, then became in just a few years one of the most recognized in jewelry. Creative and innovative character, René Lalique was in constant search of new materials. Thus, he oriented his company towards working with glass. After the First World War, the Art Nouveau movement was replaced by a more minimalist and geometric style more commonly known as Art Deco. Very anchored in the trends of his time, René Lalique adopted this new style and it won him immediate success. Thus, the Lalique house was entrusted with the development of prestigious works such as the decoration of the Orient-Express dining car or that of the famous fountains on the avenue des Champs-Élysées. When René Lalique died in 1945, his son Marc modernized the family factory partly destroyed by the ravages of war. He also introduced crystal work in his business. He was succeeded by his daughter Marie-Claude Lalique, the first woman to take on the role of creative director of this great house. She was famous for the bright colors of her creations and embodied a kind of marriage between tradition and renewal. Currently, and since 2008, the Lalique house belongs to the Swiss company Art & amp; Fragrance. The brand continues to increase its production capacities and is no longer known only for its sculptural works. It has also become a major player in perfumery.

Lalique fragrances

Although Lalique made its appearance as a jeweler, its history has always been closely linked to that of perfumery. In addition, it was in 1907 that René Lalique met François Coty, a perfumer located on the Place Vendôme in Paris. Together, they sought to democratize perfume. Thus, they collaborated in order to industrialize the manufacture of bottles and make perfumery accessible to as many people as possible. On the other hand, it was not until much later to see the appearance of a first perfume signed entirely by the Lalique brand. It was created in 1992 under the leadership of Marie-Claude Lalique. It was a fairly classic floral juice, followed 10 years later by Tendre Kiss, a more modern and sparkling juice. Other fragrances also followed suit, such as Perles de Laliques, Encre Noire, White, Amethyst, Cascade, Fleur de Cristal or Satine, to name but a few. Likewise, in 2014, Lalique gave birth to a collection called Noir Premier and composed of six fragrances each symbolizing an important date in the brand’s history.
